My Dad was with the Air Force in Alaska durning the 60s. His duties sometimes included watching radar. He says Russia sending jets at our border, sometimes a dozen or more, was a very common thing. They would send jets, he would scramble ours and everyone would turn around near the clearly defined line. We would to the same to them. Each side was always testing.
